In America’s beloved football league, there are thirty two teams, each from a city. Other than football teams being different in their defensive and offensive skills, they’re also different in their perspective uniforms. Teams represent the cities in which they reside with different color schemes in their uniforms. As a result, all players are required to abide by the color scheme of their team’s uniform. Chicago Bears wide receiver Earl Bennett showed us exactly what happens when a player chooses not to abide by the color scheme of the team.

For years and years the uniform of the Chicago Bears has been exactly the same color scheme. Blue jersey with orange stripes, white pants and black cleats. Mr. Bennett must have felt a little courage and wanted to create some individuality as a player on the team, so he added his own fashion twist. He came to Monday night’s game dressed in the usual bears uniform, yet this time instead of the usual black cleats, he sported a pair of bright orange. For the folks at home, such as myself, this was seen as cool, high end NFL fashion. To the NFL though, this was seen as defiance. In an effort to show their unhappiness with Bennett’s cleats the NFL fined him $5,000.

Bennett told ESPN 100’s “Football Night in Chicago Show” on Tuesday his teammates warned him about getting fined before he took the field. When asked why he thought he was fined because of his shoes he stated, “They were too orange I guess”.  Regardless of how he was dressed though, Bennett caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in his first game back after suffering a torso injury in week two.
